Death Benefit

July 4, 2015

Sitting here watching TV.. working on things.. and Dr. Phil was wait.. it was Dr. Oz.. there was a mom talking about her children- who were killed by her husband.. saying that she finds comfort in knowing they are always with her….

THEN.. Steve Harvey- who I wish was my next door neighbor – had a mom and dad on his show- who’s son was killed in Iraq.. he told his mom and dad if he didn’t come back to take care of his buddies… so they bought land and made a place for families who children die serving to stay… a retreat for healing.. they paid for the land with his “death benefit”..

Death benefit…

I had to think about that for a while.. When the father of the soldier said this world I thought- what a crazy concept..

A benefit for death.. Is there a benefit in death?

This family chose to say yes to that very hard question.

Trevor was this families son.. who told his parents to “take care of his buddies”..

Taking care of his buddies is what his parents are doing with his death benefit.

It’s really beautiful when something so tragic happens and with a whipser, so it seams lives are changed.

After Trevor died his mom and dad took his death benefit and bought some land in their hometown.

Trevors dad worked on the house because his dream was to honor his son and take care of his buddies.

Trevor’s dream came true.

The community came together and helped his dad rebuild the house so that fall solders families could have a place to stay, a place for peace ager their soldier died.

That, my friends, is the beauty of life.

Show me a bereaved parent looking at a death benefit as a benefit and look at my heart break and flourish all in one.

I believe in my heart that there will be a point in all of our lives where we could break down and become a person we never thought we would be- this can be either beautiful or really ugly.

I can say from my exepeince taking the death of my son and using it to help others will be my greatest blessing in my life- the benefit in Leo’s

Sitting here watching TV.. working on things.. and Dr. Phil was wait.. it was Dr. Oz.. there was a mom talking about her children- who were killed by her husband.. saying that she finds comfort in knowing they are always with her….

Being able to help others… and in that making me a more humbled human being..

This mom and dad’s son died to the ultimate- protecting our freedom and that right there deserves major respect.  Then they took it a step further and took care of his buddies family..

Trevor must be so special.

I hope when mom and dad meet Leo and I who has had a stllbirth feel that they know us for a reason- because I know once I meet a mom and dad that there is an instant connection.  It’s almost like I know in the very core of myself that they are supposed to be in my life.. Letting us bereaved parents that all those little babies in heaven are buddies.. when we meet, they meet… and one day we will all meet .. until then they flourish around us.. pushing us through each day using their death to show us the benefit of life– and that benefit is for me, a much more peaceful, at times hard and heavy, yet beautiful life.
